Try giving him an extra pillow to prop him up more. Also, if you have heating on, place a cup of water on the radiator as the dry air could be making it worse for him.
Im afraid thats all I can think of, hope it helps.
Medised is very good at helping children to sleep - more of a cold/fever medication rather than a cough medicine though. I find that milk before bed makes the chest quite mucusy (sp!) so it is quite good for a tickly cough, but doesn't help a chesty cough.

Yeah medised is the best, always have that in the cupboard!! He managed to get some sleep, will try the warm milk before bed too, thank you :)
Hi Im a nurse, and what you describe sounds like a classic case of Asthma. My son was exactly the same. Does he have a cuddly toy he sleeps with?. If he does you can try putting it in the freezer in a poly bag every day . that will kill off the dust mites that cause the cough. Also have a word with your doctor. he may need an inhaler for a year or so.

When we moved into our flat, there was quite alot of mould, could that be a factor,he seems much better now though, good idea about the teddy bear i will try that,my mum has asthma, could it run in the family? I really hope he hasnt got asthma
Yes Asthma and Excema do run in familys. Dont be alarmed but if it does not clear you know help is at hand
definately prop him up in his bed, it helps the chest drain naturally. Get him checked by the doctor if its been going on for a while, but be aware a lot of other conditions can be blamed on astma(not necersarily life threatening so please dont panic!). If his cough persists with an inhaler take him back to your Doc
