Hi.
This is quite embarassing but does anyone know how long does it take for your body to stop producing breastmilk after you have stopped breastfeeding?
My son is 21 months old now and I stopped breastfeeding him at 9 months but (if encouraged!!) I still seem to be producing breastmilk. It's not enough for a feed or anything and I can't feel that "milk feeling" you get when breastfeeding but it's still there!!!
Why????!!!

It can take ages, sometimes years. But don't worry about it and don' t keep 'testing' to see if it is still happening. By doing this you will stimulate the breasts and that in itself will produce the milk. Just try and forget it for a few more months and then if you are still worried, see a doctor for reassurance.
Hey Suga,

The last time I breastfed was - just let me count - was May '92! I can still occasionally get a very small amount of milk - a couple of drops really! Though I have to say I don't get the tingling feeling that I used to get!

I would suggest avoiding 'encouraging' the milk to flow and it will dry up naturally.

If you really are worried I would suggest speaking to your doctor/health visitor.

Best wishes,

BB xx
