hi,my baby is now 6 months old,i breastfed him exclusively for just over 4 months and my periods haven't yet arrived,the hv said to go to docs if nothings happened in a few week,which has worried me as i had read it can take up to 12 months sometimes and its quite normal?anyone any advice from personal experience?this is my first child aswell.thanks.x

I'm almost certain it was about 6 months before I had my first period after my first child too. I think I read or heard somewhere too that your periods are later in coming if you breastfeed also.

Don't worry too much, if it really was anything to be concerned about, your HV would have said to visit your GP ASAP.
Oooo just thought- you couldn't be pregnant again could you?
if theres a possibility that you might be pregnant then take a test.

for what its worth, i dont breastfeed and my periods have been spaced badly since having my 2nd. lochia stopped at 4 week, then a period 7 weeks after, then 6 weeks and then 7.5 weeks.

your body will take time to adjust and Bfing does alter that.
It took 11 months for mine to return after having my first baby. I think the time varies.
They usually return after you stop breast-feeding so in my case it was about eight months. That's where the old wives tale about you can't get pregant if you'r e breastfeeding comes from but don't take any chances coz you never know where hormones are concerned!!

hi,thanks for your replies,i did a p.test last night just to make sure and im not pregnant!phew!!ill leave it till after xmas and see if anythings happened.
