if you want him to make his own way in the world ...........................................
charge him for each and every service that he enjoys there ............ meals, laundry, cleaning, etc.
But, if you're anything like me you'll be a soft touch and make it a peppercorn amount. lol

depends... people have different opinions on this.... how much do you need?
i never paid rent, i moved out when i was 18 but from 16 - 18 while i was working my dad wouldnt take a penny, i did all my own washing and cooking and cleaning up etc but he wouldnt have taken a penny off me or my sisters, in his eyes he didnt need the money, he was very well off and we were 3 very independent girls, so dont think he saw a lesson in it either,
i live with my partner now and my 7 yr old and i can see me being the same with mine, but then again if she was lazy and bummed around the house and didnt appreciate the value of money i think i prob would take rent but just for the purpose of an lesson of independance, tho if she is anything like she is now when she is older she is going to a very independent woman lol
my partner on the other hand was spoilt something rotton and i remember when i first met him his mum still tidied his bedroom!!! but he paid 50 a week and she did everything for him, washed his clothes, cooked all his meals!! and when he started plumbing she tried to take 100 a week, which to be fair is way too much for living with parents,
anyway depends on your finances and what he does for himself etc,
i know some of my friends still live with parents and pay between 20-60 a week
xx

Again it depends what they get for the money! I think 20% - 25% of their income....my mum used to charge me that but secretly put half of it away to help me get my own place...and of course I was saving for the same reason and it made my first steps to independence so much easier. It all depends on your individual circumstances and how much they do to help around the house as well. x
I added up all the bills not including tthe morgage and divided it up between the amount of people living in the house, then worked that into a weekly amount as my sons are paid weekly.
It worked for us and seemed fairer as one earned more than the other, so why should one pay more just because he earned more.
At the moment we are both working and don't need the money, so opened savings accounts and put the money in there for when the boys move out, they will have money to set up home, they also know that if one of us can't work then the money will then help to pay bills if needed.
