Our daughter & son-in-law have arranged for a joint party for them at the local farm. All the children spend the first two hours playing, then go into an allocated decorated room for the food & birthday cake bit. They always have a great time there.
Make a video, or take lots of pictures. As well as the usual ones of family & friends and party, etc, take pictures of the house, garden, your street, locality, local town, nearby open spaces etc. Keep all the images very safe and give them to him on his 21st birthday in 20 years' time. Then say "ah!" with nostalgia and "hasn't it all changed!" with regret.
LOL calleach! Some relatives of mine made their own wine on their son's first birthday and aged it right up until he got married! I am putting together a little book of the year - our home, our family, important people, news, culture, world events - to give to him when he is old enough to appreciate it. Which may be never but it's a nice idea anyway. More traditionally, our son's 1st birthday will be dec. 2 and the family (extended) is having a nice dinner, and baby gets to toddle around with the other little 'uns and have his first sampling of chocolate cake! I don't know how you feel about showers of presents, but I detest it and am more interested in him getting some quality time with rarely-seen family members. Good luck anyway, and remember to take lots of pictures!
It is my son's first birthaday on 18th December and I don't want the ocassion to go unmarked. I am arranging a party for him and having 'Music for little people' (which is the music group he goes to) come in to entertain for an hour. We will be videoing etc. and I am also asking family to write him a little letter or poem, which will be given in sealed envelopes and given to him on his 16th birthday. Hopefully they will be words of love and wisdom to send him on the right path to adulthood. I loved the tree idea though and will use that too!. Thanks
My friend's son's B-day is Dec 22. She always has his party the first weekend in Dec to allow some time before Xmas.
This of course won't matter this year, but think about it for future. Not only does a Christmas baby feel gypped out of a birthday, but you may be busy around the holidays, and little party guests may be out of town.
