Insect found in baby milk powder

Hi All. Last week when I was making up my daughters milk using a popular babys milk powder, I found a dead insect inside. It was only small but when I took a photograph of it close up, it was absolutely disgusting. It was green and had little antennaes (spelling?) and I think six legs. We phoned the company and they sent out a bag for us to send the product back, along with the bug itself.

Just wondered whether this has happened to anyone else? It's making me heave just thinking about it. I'm so glad I spotted it before I emptied it into her bottle.

It depends wether or not you want the company to get into trouble or not. If you send it back to them as requested, you would probably get a few 'freebies'
If you want to make more of a fuss then get in touch with hygiene standards agency..
If you are really angry about this then send the whole lot including insect to The Sun.

No I wouldn't want to cause trouble for anyone. Just really wondered if this was something that happens quite a lot (hope not!). I sent the bug back in a tiny plastic button bag, along with a letter, the product and close up photographs. If it was something foreign then I would be more worried. I would like to know what it is really. When you go on those Insect Identifier websites they are more confusing than they're worth.

When I say I don't want to cause trouble for anyone - obviously if any harm came to my baby then of course I would take it as far as I could!! She seems fine. Just really want to know what it was and if it was dangerous or anything.
There are lots of little beetle type things about. It was probably something that fell of the ceiling during manufacturing and fell into the powder before being packaged.
I'm quite sure it was a one-off. you just happened to be the unlucky person who got the bug.
If you have sent the insect back then I daresay they will send you complimentary gifts along with an apology.

:-)
With all due respect, a tiny insect isn't going to cause your child any harm. When we were kids, we often (accidentally) swallowed a fly or soil and it didn't do us any harm.

Because today's kids are so protected against doing this, they grow up with little or no immunity to it and are more prone to catching disease.
its actually a new government initiative to get more protein into babies diets

Yes I agree. As I said, it did me and my peers no harm.
You should at least write to the company and even send them the insect. They'll probably send you loads of vouchers.
have you read the whole thread velvetee????

she has already done that!!
I remember my youngest son telling me that he'd eaten a "pig worm" - woodlouse. I prized his mouth open to see a few legs still on his tongue, which made me feel ill, but he was fine. Over time, he ate: a worm, a hoverfly, a caterpillar, a spider and a slug!! None of these creatures harmed him, and I'm now wondering if they'd taste better in an omelette! : )
sounds like a weevil - no harm; its protein & free ;)
Hey our Velvet has only a week to go ! She has baby brain.... Thinking of you Velvet.
