this seems a very small problem, but it has infuriated me. we had four lovely newish school sweatshirts at 14.00 each, clearly labelled with my sons names ironed in on non removeable labels. someone has taken all but one of these. they are nowhere to be seen. what can i put on them to make them less appealing to theives?

if named then theres not a lot you can do. any mark you mark on the would have to be on inside.
Have you checked lost property at the school?
have you asked the teachers to check the other kids' name labels?

your only other options are buy second hand, or buy less. 4 seems a bit excessive, they grow out of them so quickly.
where did you put the name tags? if on the labels they can be easily cut out. Try ironing one on the inside of a sleeve or something

The labels are ironed on and unable to be removed onto the back of the neck. I have been checking lost property for the last few weeks. It is just so infurating. Some of my friends have taken to bleaching their initials into the inside of the waistband. I think I am going to have to somehow put his name visible onto the outside of the design.
Were they stolen at school? I would contact the teachers/head, particularly if it's not just you it has happened to.

It does look this way. I have contact the head but have heard nothing yet. It is my fault for being a super-fussy mum so the sweatshirts were well looked after, not faded and scruffy looking.
i know how your feeling loggy, my son has come home without jumpers, lunchboxes, trainers and pencil cases, its so infuriating! i understand that these things can get mixed up and taken home by accident but surely any decent parent would clearly notice that they are not there childs, especially if the name of the child is on the item.
loggy - my son is now 16 and finished school (thank god!) and has lost jumpers, shirts, shoes, bags, coats, phones and oodles of other stuff. some was due to his own carelessness, but others were nicked while he was doing PE or playing at break/lunch time. i dread to think how much i spent on all the things he lost, but it is part of school life now unfortunately and you find it frustrating probably because a) you never lost stuff at school yourself b) you probably had more respect for your belongings back then and c) would never entertain nicking someone elses stuff. there is really nowt else you can do. i tried shouting, docking pocket money and sending mine in without whatever it was that he lost, but usually bought replacements eventually. there are some immoral theiving gits about!
My daughter went to a private school and 'lost' her skirt from the changing room during PE. She had to wear her gym skirt until I replaced the skirt (over 20) .The school didn't care and just said it will turn up which it never did. She lost many things over the years, things get stolen all the time, and having the name on makes little difference. Better get used to it!
