i have been given an unfair verbal warning at work...they did not give me the chance to have a witness there, defend myself or tell me what i have done! I have appealed against the warning and have been told that if i take it further they will either sack me or make me redundant! where do i stand legally and what can i do? ( i have been employed by the company for over 12 months and have had no disciplinary issues before this)

They have to tell you what the verbal warning is for, otherwise you can't be expected to do better in whatever aspect of your job they feel you needed warning about!
Also they cannot threaten you with sacking or redundancy just for appealing against a verbal warning given in this manner. As you have been employed over 12 months you can take them to an industrial tribunal if they do. Keep a note of all meetings and of any correspondence to help your case.
They sjould have given you the choice to have someone sit in with you as YOUR witness.
Sorry Typo, Should
they can't do this to you...you have the right to appeal with out this threat..who do you work for ?
Who has said they will sack you or make you redundant? Was this just a comment from a colleague? I find it hard to believe the company would say this.
Do you have a union?
Is there a documented disciplinary procedure? It should allow for appeals.
Also there must be a gievance procedure.
make sure you are a member of a union. go an see them if you are and kick butt x
