There was a well known case of a woman whose husband was German. Long story; she had custody in the UK but he took the children on holidays and never returned them; he took them to Germany. She fought him all the way through the German courts and never got anywhere. She never saw them again. She is now waiting as they are nearing full age, and she hopes once they are 18 they will choose to see her of their own accord. This story is well known because the lady later remarried, her second husband was the UK Ambassador to the US, so her story featured in various papers such as Hello! etc. It illustrates that the German courts are tough on the non-German parent.
