Too nice?

Over the years on AB I have noticed that there are people nasty most of the time, nasty some of the time, pleasant some of the time and then a small group who are pleasant all the time.

The group that interests me mainly is the group that is pleasant and understanding ALL the time whatever the topic. Although many are in the other groups, this particular group, mainly women, although there is one man, are understanding, helpful and compassionate and have bucket loads of sympathy all the time.

My question for general discussion is, can this group of people be so understanding that it defeats it’s own object and become predictable and verging on nauseous? Odd question eh?

There are people mainly on Body and Soul who are “attention seekers” and quite often I have the impression that they, the attention seekers, are fed by the “understanding group” hitherto described.

Attention-seeking is particularly noticeable with females so I've used the pronoun "she" and she commonly exploits the suffering of others to gain attention to herself.
Males also exhibit attention-seeking behaviour.

Just something for general discussion.

A load of b0ll0cks!! :-)
What about me? Ignore me at your peril...
As I'm not in the nice group I'm not sure I understand the load of crap you've written.
When you poke a wasp nest you are bound to get stung, sqad.
Yes... I think some people only want to hear good things and others deliberately attention seek to gain sympathy, I imagine they don't have people they feel they can talk to outside of this forumn and perhaps they'e lonely. I tend to ignore or answer with what I think regardless.

CD...well done...the first poster to answer sensibly.
It is indeed a very good question, so much so that I once asked a rather attention seeking question along those lines, ie 'Do you find me sickly and nauseating or am I just helpful?'
I am of course being rather pompous and presuming I may be in this group to which you refer.
From my stand point I try to help, calm, mediate not to be seen as angelic, but rather that it is my nature. Yes there is a possibility of 'feeding' the attention seekers, but like to think have sussed them out, the only problem is the possibility of the 'Cry Wolf' scenario.
I thought Craft's answer was eminently sensible!

I jest. I don't know Sqad. But people get different things out of sites like this. Some maybe are lonely, some like to hide behind a mask, some like to help, some are just on here wasting time when they should be doing something more profitable (that latter one is aimed at me).

Even if the nice people DO verge on nauseous, those who find it so can just opt out of that particular thread.

marmyalynne....excellent answer also to a question that has been described as "A load of b0ll0cks!! :-

Well answered.
I don't spend enough time in B&S tbh, but there is probably an element of truth there, Sqad. Human nature and all that.
Sqad, I think you're thinking too much. I'm more concerned about what I'll be having for dinner... I have nothing in :-(
Tuna pasta?
I'll be honest and say I find it hard work to be "nice" all the time on here and had a similiar dort of discussion about this on the "Karma" thread yesterday. Saying that other people have passed kind thoughts and advice when I let my guard drop regarding a personnel issue recently and it was appreciated.

Back to work now so can't comment more.....
Possibly other people's problems, fears and general cry for help/attention bring out the maternal instinct
I agree with CD. These posters can also get very tetchy if you happen to disagree with them. The type of poster who should say 'positive comments only' in their posts.
There are a mixed bag of people on Answerbank - which is like life really - I can't stand attention seekers and keep well away from them.
Snags I'm sure you can find something to shove between 2 seedy baps :oD ..... and talking of seedy baps hiya ummmmy and BM :oD

What's wrong with being nice anyway??
