Putting a drip in a baby's head?
43 Answers
I know a mother who is currently in Asia and if their 1 year old baby has a temperature when they take him to the doctors they immediately put a drip in the baby's fore head. This sounds absolutely rediculous to me. It actually stops the mother taking the child to the doctors unless he is really bad. Like now he has a slight temperature and a cough but they are monitoring him and if he getrs worse they will take him to the doctors. What would you suggest? Take him at the slightest temperature and get him filled up with drugs or wait and see if it worsens but how can you tell if it bad enough to take him to the doctors? I know kids get ill quite a lot and recover quickly so when do you take them to the doctors?

This is the situation in 99.9% of cases.....the 0.1% is if the child has a pre-diagnosed immune deficiency disorder.
Can you just imagine the work load on GP´s if every child was taken to the GP at the onset of a temperature? It´s nonsense.

According to one of the paediatric sisters I worked for during my training It's what calpol is for..... I was taught the times to react quickly are .. baby or small child listless , rash, or temp that doesn't come down with baby paracetamol. floppy or change in the sound of the crying . vomitting or diarrhoes more than one episode....The little darlings get raised temperatures with so many things.....I am sure sqad will add more things to this list
