I see this morning that my dentist was advertising on a local site, it starts off, " We are here to look after your teeth no matter what" Going into their online booking one CLICKS(existing customer) then CLICKS (private) results, No appointments.

So then I CLICK (existing customer) and NHS, result no appointments.

So then I CLICK new customer, and then click private, loads of appointment times. Charge £150.00 to include some treatment if an emergency. In other words the rest of you can sod off for now, covid time, big money time.

they might like to stop saying "We are here to look after your teeth no matter what", though, if it's really "We are here to look after your teeth if you go private".

well existing users wouldnt book that way would they?? Have you tried getting a booking in the normal way? Did you not agree your next appointment /check up time when you had your last one, a thats how mine work's
I have to agree that most dentists at the moment in my area are prioritising private patients, I guess they need to make up for lost money from early lockdown, but it's certainly not about caring.
All my appointments last year were cancelled, they said they would ring in the New Year. Still waiting. Will give them a ring, next week.

Don't know were you have been for the last twelve months Bobb, but things have changed from the normal of last March.
You seem to be unlucky where you live. I have been to doctors and dentists right through Covid. Dentist on the National Health, but only for emergencies. I had an abscess and got seen quickly. My dentist is also the emergency dentist for the area.
£150 is pretty normal for private.

Ummmm, didn't say it was or wasn't.
You said it was greed. It's not.
Question Author
But just to add to the thread it appears that there are 6 dentists available to choose from for this £150 treatment for a total stranger to the practice.
Question Author
It is greed, when they are refusing to see existing customers, because they income will be a lot less than £150. But I think you already get that.
Teacake. I've been here and at work.
My last appointment has been rearranged twice due to lockdowns and has now been set for this month they still answeredphones
you theenk greengo that everyone in health care takes a vow of poverty
they dont
Health care is expensive - and if there is nt an efficient socialised system ( the NHS that is!) you pay

filling £150 - - oo I think it should be 35p and THAT is expensive,
well its £150 - and you pay for a filling or not
so what
you need insurance for a dentist like you need insurance for a car
it isnt a luxury ( like income tax or council tax - neither of those are luxuries )
Wind yer neck in pp. lots of people don’t have a spare £150 sitting around. We’ve had a lifetime of NHS paid for dentistry. Now things are permanently changed. Thanks Blair. I know plenty of folk who have HAD to resort to home dentistry including extraction. I also no several who are in pain with filling fallen out. This situation is avoidable and intolerable.

PP, My insurance company are still providing me with the service I've paid for, not just providing for the Bentley owner. I've also been paying my dentist fees on every visit over the last 20 years, the same one, this one, I refer too. But now chooses to treat total strangers before regular customers who have paid a hell of a lot more than £150, and someone that may never return for any other treatment in the near future, not to mention that I have proof of vaccination that can be checked at my local surgery, who they have the address of.
// We’ve had a lifetime of NHS paid for dentistry. Now things are permanently changed. //

and now you dont - health services are paid for on a year by year basis. Nothing to do with my neck. - or what happened of yore
teekie I cant work out if you are insured and not insured at the same time. I have dental insurance and excesses are commonly over £100.

Health care isnt free
Question Author
The only common excess I see comes from you. This is not about wanting something, or any service for free,I've been paying for 20 years., Its about a dentist pretending that covid is creating a problem for him to service NHS patients, and regular private patients, but at the same time it don't appear to be a problem for anyone to be treated providing they are happy to shell out £150 for a one off visit.
I see an nhs dentist and have been 4 times in the last 3 months due to a tooth abscess, had tooth extracted, moulds for new dentures and hope to pick them up in 2 weeks so i can't complain. They are seeing anyone whos in pain but if you are not registered with them you have to pay the private cost.
I was on about this, this morning.
Why is your name showing up as queen 1954 above your question, teacake?
