Pain

My husband is suffering with a pain in his right bum cheek going into his lower back. We think this may be a trapped sciatic nerve. He wont go to see a doctor. Has anyone any tried and tested methods to try and ease the pain? So far he has taken ibuprofen.

I thought it was just for ageing hippies when I was told to do it,. It sorted me out after just 6 sessions 4 years ago I haven't had a problem since, I suffered for 15 years with pack problems.
I know its a bit oddball, have a couple of private sessions (one on one) just to start and get a feel for it. I thought I would have been the last person in the world to be doing Yoga, I tried purely from desperation. I haven't done it since and i got no problems now.

It sounds like classic sciatica.Take paracetamol and ibuprofen, keep moving gently, keep your back as supple as possible with whatever exercise suits you, yoga, pilates, tai chi, chiropractic or osteopathy treatment may help, if they're difficult to access, ask your doctor for a physiotherapy referral. Rest when you need to, but DON'T take to your bed and stay there - bedrest will cause more problems than it cures. Seek medical advice if you experience altered sensation down your leg or foot, or have altered saddle sensation (which would lead to difficulties with passing urine and/or defaecating). Most back pain resolves over a few weeks/months without any treatment other than the things I've suggested, and is miserable to live with! Best wishes.
I had Sciatica for 4 months and I finally got an appointment with physio thro the doctor and she did accupuncture on me with a very long needle and it worked fantastically. I had previously paid for a chiropractor and she did try accupuncture but only with a short needle and it didn't work so I would recommend the physio every time, mine was brilliant.
