baby's sex
12 Answers
I'm due to have my 20 week scan at the end of October and I'm in two minds whether or not to ask if they can tell the sex. My husband has said from the start he wants to know but I can't make up my mind! He said he'll find out and I don't need to know, but I know that the next 5 months will be hell, knowing he knows and I don't and I'll end up begging him to tell me! How can I decide what to do? He is adamant he's finding out!

He initially thought we may have been tricking him, but now that Emmy is here he knows we werent lol.
I think the sonogropher would be reluctant to tell your hubby if you dont want to know, so it may be that he cant find out anyway!

i wanted the surprise the first time (boy). I asked about the second child because I wanted a girl and if it was a boy I wanted a chance to get over my disappointment before he came. It was, and I did, and I was able to welcome him without wishing he was a girl.
It seems problematic for one parent to know and keep it secret from the other. Why does your hub want to know? Is he a xmas package peeper, or does he have a practical reason?

I found out for 1 reason because i wanted to buy pink clothes although as said it is no guarantee to be right, i really wanted a girl and couldnt wait to buy all the little pink clothes however on my scan i was told a boy, so that changed a few things. If you are not eager to buy coloured clothes i would keep it as a suprise, the only thing you will want to know when you have given birth that he or she is healthy.
If i hadnt wanted to know and my partner had I would let him find out just as long as he promised to keep it to himself

Thanks everyone! I know in the scheme of things this isn't really that important and I will be happy as long as the baby is healthy.
Kingaroo, no particular reason why hubby wants to find out, he's just not one for surprises, just set in his ways!
I think I will wait and see if the sonographer can actually tell before I ask to be told the sex!

I wanted to know and my husband didn't so I found out and never told him or anyone else but really enjoyed shopping in secret for lots of blue things and keeping them all hidden til my son arrived. You could ask them to write it down and put it in an envelope then if you want to look before the baby arrives you will always have the option
My son and his partner decided not to ask the first time, but asked the second.
There isn't really any reason to know (other than what colour to buy the first clothes in, if that's important to you) unless, unless, there is a serious genetic problem in your family which affects one sex only (usually boys).
Of course, if you have two the same sex you can get away for putting them in one bedroom for much longer....
