Pregnant at 22

As some of you now know i found out back in December that i was prergnant.
Done my first pregnancy test and it came back negative, so when i did a second test a week later and it confirmed that i was indeed "up the duff" i was in shock, as was my fella.
Anyway after much deliberation over what to do (terminate or go through with having the baby) i decided i wanted to give this baby a chance.
Me and my boyfriend are both on decent wages for our age and only yesterday i was given a payrise (my boss doesnt know yet!).
Anwyay, thought i'd break the news in the infamous "body and soul" as i'm sure a lot of you dont check the "family" section.
So what are your honest views? 22 too young?

from our previous chats i can see that youre not an immature 22 year old. Some may say that there are 30 year olds who are not mature enough to handle having a family. I also know of girls who had children at 16 and yet still managed to hold down decent jobs, one even went to uni in her 30s to further her career.

Thanks redcrx. I'm always being told i'm mature for my age and even the woman i work with who's 32 and has two kids - we're pretty much on the same wave length.
Although i don't really look 22, probably slightly younger, so i'm paranoid about the looks i'll get from passers by! But i think soon enough i'll overcome that!

Hi Nat, Congratulations. You seem like very sensible well together person you are definitely not too young to be pregnant at 22. I had my first child at 20, I was 19 when I found out I was expecting him and it was very big shock. But myself and partner had been together for 4 years already and were living together so it was the next step in our relationship. I had my next son at the age of 23 I had 2 miscarriages in between the first 2, losing twins when my eldest son was only 6 months old and another on September 11th when the world went into chaos with the twin tower bombings.
I had my 3rd son when I was 25, and when he was 6 months old I lost another baby. None of my pregnancies were planned and all were shocks as I was taking contraception, and in the beginning before I had the boys they told me I could not have children because of PCOS, but then find out I am overly fertile! But I would never change having my sons, Yes I was young but they have the advantage of having a young mum full of energy and when they are grown up I will still be quite young myself.
My family is complete now and I have taken the steps to make sure I don't get caught out again and I am waiting to be sterilised but as I'm only 27 they say it is too young.
Having a baby no matter what age you are is a wonderful experience it can be hard but that is part of the package, just wait until you are holding that little miracle in your arms you will feel so wonderful nothing can beat that first moment.
I wish you and your partner all the best.

nat, I cant see why you would get odd looks? Perhaps if you were the stereotypical teenage mum like Vicky Pollard people may stop and stare but good mums come in all ages and theres nothing nicer than seeing a new baby being well looked after regardless of the age of the mum.
Anyway, youll be so proud pushing your new son or daughter out in their pram that you wouldnt notice anything around you. Have confidence in youself, you can do it.

Congrats hun, I don't think it's too young at all. Ignore any looks you get, and you will get them, I even get them when I'm out with my nephew!! Everyone thinks I'm his mum and even though I'm 24 I certainly don't look it so I get some filthy looks!! You've obviously decided it's right for you so no-one can tell you otherwise.
So good luck to you and your fella!! How's the pregnancy going so far?? xxx
