Society may in some cases think that the age difference matters however there is a greater age difference between my OH and myself
Peoples perception of age gaps in couple varies depending on the ages of the people involved

Its not illegal, as the others have said; the age of consent is 16 so no laws have been broken.
Please encourage your friend to stay in school and do her exams. Being a young mum will be hard (made harder by the attitude of people like squarebear) but she's not necessarily throwing her life away, she has plenty of time in the future.
Good luck to her x

Squarebear, I think you're generalising. Neither of us knows this girl. Her partner is 22 years old, he may have a steady job and be happy about starting a family.
I know a lot of teenage pregnancies do end up with the mum being a single parent and living on benefits but taking such a negative view on this situation wont benefit anyone.
Its just not helpful to condemn this girl to a life of hardship and handouts before she's even got started.

If you love each other so much, then having babies can wait until you have had time to grow as a couple - don't be too quick to grow up - enjoy being young and in love and a couple - think about all the things you can do and places you can go together without a baby. By all means start your family while you are young if that is what you want to do, but give yourselves a chance to enjoy yourselves and really get to know each other. I would never plan to have a child unless you are at the very least living as a couple in your own place. It is difficult enough looking after yourselves and each other without the responsibilities of a baby. It is not all walks in the park and cuddles on the sofa looking after a baby or small child. You need to make sure that you always have a supply of food, heating, lighting etc. You need to make sure that you have clean clothes, dishes, kitchen toilets etc and food on the table as well as a roof over your head. It is a lot of hard work and responsibility. Are you really ready to do all that?
