Immensely
The only way for it to spread is through direct contact. Providing you dont kiss the baby or touch him/her after touching your coldsore, s/he will be fine.
Eh? Thought you said you were staying away to be safe?
Question Author
Thought I'd ask hellie just to see. But I think maybe just the sight of it the parents might keep me away anyway
I was led to believe that babies are immune for the first 6 weeks 4get, but as I said on your other post, ask a pharmacist first
Morning 4get - I certainly wouldn't stay away from seeing the new baby when he/she arrives, but as Psychick says - so long as you don't touch the sore and then the child, or kiss it, I don't see how you could pass anything on, as cold sores come from viral infections, spread by contact.. In any case, you can get some good medication from chemists these days, that should dry the sore up pretty quickly, such as Zovirax and Denavir. x

well baby redcrx already had sniffles
Aww, I thought you were announcing the arrival of your new baby: the coldsore, 4get! ;)

Zovirax webiste:

Taken from website:
Dont kiss anyone especially young children and babies. Open sores can spread the virus, but so can saliva.

I beter not dribble on her either then
Ow, 4get! Sounds painful! I've never had one, thank God (and touch wood!). It's a bit of a running joke in my family not to let my grandma catch you with a kiss, as she always used to have them. :(
Question Author
Of course not you're too pretty for them whiskey
Ive just remembered, I came out in several coldsores after the birth of my first daughter and she didnt get any despite me holding her and caring for her.

Why didnt I remember that earlier? God I need help to save me few brain cells!
Question Author
its weird I had one when little redcrx was born too
It's the stress 4get, you're immune system is telling you it's run down. Get some multi-vits inside you
Question Author
But I dont see what I have to be stressed about
You may be feeling good yourself and happy, but your body may be run down and in need of a boost.
