i heard acohol can reduce the quantity and quality of sperm, is that true? if the man is still drinking lots, would increase very high risk for unhealthy baby?

Not sure about the unhealthy baby but it will reduce the amount of sperm and their quality making it more difficult to get pregnant.

Hi warpig - I tend to agree with you, although it never seemed to affect hard-drinking working-class men in years gone by. They all seemed to end up with very large families. Perhaps it's a combination of what goes into drinks these days, plus all the food additives - but yes, heavy drinking can cause a low or poor sperm count. I'd say that the risk to a baby'd come from a mother who drank a lot of alcohol, not the father, as it's her blood that flows through the placenta to the child.
