Mum at 40?
Just about to reach the big 4-0 and was wondering if there are any 'older' first time mums out there. I have never thought about having children before but it seems to be taking up more and more of my thoughts.

I was never interested in having children in my 20's and then it took 7 years for me to concieve but she was worth the wait.My friend has just had her first at the age of 40 and loves mothethood too! Your life will change so much but all for the better. I have made so many new friends. I would definetly go for it!
I always assumed I would be a mom in the way that most girls do. I will be 40 in February and am not married and have not dated in many years. I kind of accepted that being a mom is not in the cards, but about 2 years ago my gyn said something about being good to go until 41 and then we'd have to worry. So since then I have thought about it now and then.
When my friends were having their children in their 20's they used to mock the older moms in the play groups and say they felt sorry for the kids who would have old moms when their friends parents would be young. Of course now they have no such memory of those comments. If you really want a baby go for it. Do what you want, not for any other reason.

it seems to be a common thing to have children in your forties, i am in my 20's and at the school gate i feel very young compared to other mums. i say if you want to go for it, in my eyes age makes no difference.
look on the website babycentre.co.uk it has groups/forums you can join for all different mums/mums to be.

supa-star, it is something I have been thinking about too. Although I have a 14 year old I am so aware that my choice to have any more may be taken away from me. I am 42 and in a newish relationship with someone younger than me and who has no children.
I am afraid I can't advise, but I can empathise with what you are going through! I would say if you want to, you should go for it!!

I went thru what your going thru now...and I was told by someone who also went thru it. This woman was 45, who had her first child, and two others shortly afterward. She told me what someone else told her. Here it is:
"If having a baby is something that is important to you, do not let the voice of others destroy your dreams. Follow your heart."
And that is what some of my friends, and I have been doing. We all are in our 40's.
Good Luck to you!! I do hope you go through it with sucess!

Well I had my first (and last) child when I was 40. I had a virtually brilliant pregnancy, apart from the normal tirdness and a very swift labour/birth.
If it is something you want to do then go for it, but just remember, at 40 you dont have the same energy as a 20 year old (well I certainly don't!) and also you have lived your life and are used to suiting yourself, having a child will take all your time and energy and may feel like a sacrifice at times but one that is truely worth it.
good luck
