engine noise

Noise coming from engine, was told it was bottom end goin but guy today looke at it and says wrong noise. One belt seems to be quite slack, cud be oil pump belt. Cud this be making the noise which is not a consistant noise, bit of a clatter, no knocking or thumping sounds and deff cumin from belt area, possibly low down. Car is Alfa 155 2.0 16V. does need belt change as 100.000 on clock neary... cheers

water pump can make a rumbling noise and make the belt feel slack.

Sounds like the water pump is on the way out. Best to get that checked out as it will fail all of a sudden.
