Elective C-Section

Hi

I am having an elective c-section this time (my last was emergency under general anaesthetic, a real emergency it was given in my jugular as they were so worried about baby) I have a few questions about the procedure (have found some info online but would much rather hear your experiences please)
1. did you go in day of your op or night before? did you have to fast?
2. how long did you stay in hospital?
3. were you done at 39 wks?
4. did you have an enema?
5. anything else you can tell me about it???
Thanks very much - I have an apt with consultant and a scan at 36 wks (3 wks time) but want to hear what other mums have to say about it. Cheers

Hi upsydaisy, I had an elective c-section 12 years ago so somethings may have changed since then.
1. I went in the morning of my section and had to fast from the night before.
2.I stayed in hospital about 4 days
3. No I was done at 36 weeks.
4. NO
5. Obvoiusly you will be very nervous and once you have walked to the theatre the nerves will go into overdrive, but just think in a half hour or more you will be holding your lovely baby in your arms. It is very scary adventure but think of the prize at the end. Good luck and hope everything goes ok and hope that I have helped.

1. Went in in the morning for the Op - went in night before for a few pre op checks and then went hom.
Had evening meal, but no supper or breakfast.
2. Stayed in 3 days with first, 2 days with 2nd (1st emergency section, 2nd elective section)
3. 39 + 2, they only did electives on Wednesdays - only done early as midwife fudged the dates as I was terrified of going into leabour again as they expected the same problems to reoccur with 2nd birth, added to which there was only a 13 month gap and they were not sure the scar would hold during labour!
4. Not that I remember
5. Comparing the emergency to the elective, the latter is a much better experience. I went in at 7am and was first on the list - was back up in the ward with my baby by 9.30. No large blood loss, no exhausting labour, no stress, it was a very positive experience.

i had an emergancy c section 12 yeardone at 33 weeks i stayed in for a week and i was knocked out for it you will be very sore after keep the wound as clean as possible plenty of soaks in the bath and do your pelvic floor excercises as soon as your midwife advises you

Hi! I had an elective section in December due to my daughters breech presentation. It was my first baby.
1. Yes, I went in the morning of my op, they had already told us that it would be some time in the afternoon. I had to fast from 6am. Was up at 5.30 scoffing toast! ;o) No water either.
2. I had my daughter on the Tuesday and left on Friday. I was asked if I wanted to leave on the Thursday but I wasn't confident enough with my breastfeeding during the night so I stayed another.
3. No, I was done at exactly 40 weeks. I was told that it should be between 38-39 weeks usually but as it was Christmas (!) they were too busy. I was told to cross my legs if I went into labour before the date.
4. No, nobody mentioned anything like that.
5. Well, I was absolutely petrified! Mostly about the spinal block but it really wasn't too bad. I was in and out of surgery in 38 minutes (although 2nd, 3rd sections take longer due to previous scar tissue) The feeling returned to my bottom half in around 3-4 hours. I can't really think of anything else but its all pretty fresh in my mind if you want ask anything else.

Hi, I had to have c-section in Marchh 2008 as I was having twins and they thought they were going to be big and that could be a danger for the twin 2.
1. I went in on the morning of the op and wasn't allowed anything from midnight and I had to take a tablet at about 5 in the morning before I went in.
2. I had the babies on the Wednesday and was out on the Saturday.
3. As it was twins I was done at 37 + 6
4. No, didn't have an enema
5. I was scared out of my mind from the minute they told be I would have to have a c-section. Anythime someone mentioned it I cried (I hate hospitals). My first birth was hard but the second was easy, the third was so easy I still had my trousers on and my husband delivered our daughter in the kitchen at home so I was dreading a c-section. I was such a mess that they let me go first and I was frightened but it wasn't as bad as I thought. It was a bit different for me as there were two doctors both working on getting the babies out at the same time. I was up and out of bed quite quickly (or so the nurse said) and I think that made a big difference. Good luck xxx
