does anyone know how long it takes for a sure start maternity grant to be paid?

Just wondering how long after sending the sure start maternity grant form of does it get paid into your bank account? and has anyone on here had one recently and how long it took for them?

They give you £500 tax free and none repayable these days?? I'm stunned, that's incredible

don't know about the ssmg, but i recently got the HIP grant and it took about 10 days to be paid

yes my hip grant only took 10 days too i just want to know how soon the ssmg is paid

it's only for those mums on low income or benefit who can't really afford a new baby though ric. I wouldn't have qualified as I was lucky enough to have worked for 10 years before my first was born and my hubby and I had saved hard to be able to afford to lose my income.

Is there a number on the paperwork you were given, you can then call them and ask.

I got mine in less than 2 weeks I think! Before everyone slates me I had no idea I would be eligible until the midwife told me and my baby was not planned as hubby had been barely working for the previous year. I mean if someone tells you to apply and you can get it than who would honestly refuse to on moral grounds? After relying on parents to support us we had no bloody help from the government at all as my hubby was self employed so this grant was greatly received. Can see why it possibly encourages spongers to have more kids though but I am not one of them. Hope this helps mummy!
