Hi, am crying as i write this.
for people that don't know, my daughter was stillborn in August of this year owing to IUGR and placental insufficiency. Also, although we declined a PM, blood and placental samples taken at the time revealed a genetic chromosomal abnormality for her and for BOTH me and my husband (his and mine both on different chromosomes). The obstrtrician did not think this is why she died because she had the same balanced inversion of my husband who is alive and well.

Anyway our plan was to have my (last) joint (knee this time) replacement done in January, then perhaps have some IVF to try and get pregnant again, as we would probably need pre-implantation diagnosis to make sure the embryo didn't have a fatal chromosome problem. The gp asked me in the meantime to keep an eye on my cycle as my periods have been usually 7 weeks apart sine i gave birth. I have been doing ovulation sticks everyday, with no positive result in this cycle so far.

(sorry it's long) So, if my cycle was a normal 28 day one i would be a couple of days late now, so because i am due to have an xray pre my surgery on friday i did a pg test yesterday, and to my surprise it was positive. What my question really is, is there any chance of the pregnancy hormone still being arounbd in my body from giving birth in August? Could this be a false positive, and how likely is that? how reliable are the clearblue digi tests anyway?
I cant understand how i am pg if i am. This is the first month not using contraception, and i have not have a positive ovulation test this month

also meant to say, am off to the GP today but just wondered what you wise abers thought
It is extremely unlikely that this result is anything to do with persisting hormones from your August pregnancy.
False positives do occur and your have indeed tested very early.

Wait for 2 weeks and then retest again.

thanks sqad, appreciate your answer.
False positives are very rare. I can't see the pregnancy hormone still being in your system from August.

When I had a miscarriage I was tested a few days later to make sure I wasn't carrying more than one baby. It came back negative.

Maybe your ovulation kit is at fault...

thanks again ummmm. unfortunately i don't really have the luxury of waiting 2 weeks then testing again - i am on lots of meds that i will have to change if i am indeed pg
Until you're told otherwise I would take the PG test as gospel.

Good luck xx

I can´t see what other option you mah have.
as the others have said, the hormones will not still be present from August.

i dont understand all the cycles and ovulation tests etc as i have never needed to chart but it is almost impossible to have a false result if test taken correctly.

There are some medications that can give false readings, though i ont know what they are.

perhaps a call to your GP or the hospital may be a good idea, they can advise from there

did you read the test in the correct time? evaporation lines do tend to be very faint though
just want to add ((((((hugs)))))). I cant imagine how you must be feeling right now xx
ummmm....in your case.......following a miscarriage and a few days later the pregnancy test had come back positive, to me it would indicate that your miscarriage was incomplete rather than you had another baby.
No Sqad...maybe I didn't explain that right. The doctor gave me another pregnancy test to make sure I wasn't carrying twins as that had happened to me before. Losing just one and having a healthy pregnancy with the other.

thanks again everyone.
red - it's a bit hard to misread a digital test that tells you in words :)
went to the surgery as i was having a warfarin blood test there today anyway. No appointments today, but i booked one for tomorrow. The phlebotomist consulted one of the GP's and they also added HCG to the bloods. When i was pg earlier in the year they did an HCG then another a few days later to see if they were going up
sorry, i missed the word "digi" lol

sounds as if everyone is doing what they can at the moment. Its now just a case of waiting to see what the levels do.
Question Author
went to gp today - she said it could be a bit of placenta left over. having another hcg test tomorrow
Any news yet? x
Question Author
yes, as above -i have another appt Friday and in the meantime have had to go onto blood thinning injections. If the two tests taken this week don't show any rise, i guess it could either be a left over bit of placenta or a missed miscarriage or something more sinister
Question Author
thanks for asking by the way :)
oh you poor thing bednobs.....another night of waiting..........i am no expert but usually if there is any retained placenta, you would have some bleeding and possible abdominal pain ie cramps, but i stress i am not the expert. i so hope you get some positive news tomorrow. take care. anne
Just time now 1 went through similar years back,,,desperate to get pregnant ... negative,,positive then d and c etc etc ... heartbreaking ... you have my sympathy
