I suffer from sinus problems, mostly all the time but not causing any major problems.
About a week ago I started coughing - nothing too drastic - which I put down to post nasal drip (a horrible affliction) I have to admit that I have been wheezing when I breath (not asthmatic). However on Monday evening I started coughing badly and 'felt' as if I was running a temperature - couldn't find the energy to find the thermometer.
Then yesterday the runny nose started.
I was coughing up gunk that was a nasty brown colour, my throat is all dry and swallowing is difficult - I snore so that will not be helping.
I never sleep well and last night was a non starter - but the coughing has died down, my throat feels dry and yuck and I am still wheezing.
My diagnosis is that I have a cold (had the flu jag due to diabetes) and that if I ignore it it will go away. However the wheezing is driving me nuts - the only time that it stops is when I stop breathing.
Wolfy, I hope you are feeling a bit better this morning - if not, and you really don't want to bother your GP, go and see your pharmacist, or give your local chemist a ring. They are very well place to advise you, and might be able to give you (no, sell you!) some over the counter medication to help.
try steam inhalation for the wheezing....but I suggest you don't use menthol or eucalyptus its too strong and will add to the irritation... if you have some rosemary in your kitchen cupboard some of that in the boiling water would be more soothing or camomile teabag in the water would be better still
I am starting to produce less gunge but my throat is still dry and sore. I live in a second floor flat - getting to the chemist would be hard, climbing all those stairs again would be impossible.
When somebody says that they have a cold you never appreciate how awful it can make you feel - I suppose Man Flu must be worse.
I was lying in bed this morning coughing 'energetically' and looked to see two vultures (moggies) perched up high watching me suffer and die. They were probably trying to work out what to do if their food-supplying-human succumbed to the bubonic plague.
I had these exact symptoms last week but, having had flu 4 weeks ago, assumed it was the dregs of that. However the post nasal drip was making me vomit so I went to the GP, who diagnosed a chest infection and gave me antibiotics - so I'd say go and see your GP.
