Removing father s name of birth certificate, change childs surname.

How do i change my sons surname, and remove the fathers name from records or birth certificate? Dna test showed he was nt the father.

you can change his name by deed poll... dont think you can take the 'fathers' name off the birth certificate though

i'm sorry that this will sound harsh, but shouldn't you have made sure you knew who the father was before putting any name on the birth certificate?

i have no idea ummmmm - but i certainly wouldn't go just taking a guess at the identity of my baby's father if i couldn't remember who i'd been sleeping with at the time....

i'm not on my high horse at all, i would just have thought that it would be easier to get the dna test done and then add the correct father's name to the birth certificate rather than take a guess, get it wrong and have to have the name removed and change a child's surname - bearing in mind that the child or baby is probably now registered with GP, possibly school or nursery etc under the wrong surname now.

Changing names with GP's and schools is no bother. You don't have to produce a birth cert to do that.

My point is still valid though....unless you know the story....you can't judge.

Cant say i know anyone who has Dna tested their children.I thought that was mainly used by people on the jeremy kyle show?

i don't think i was being particularly judgmental - cinnamon asked how to remove the name from the certificate as a dna test has shown that the name she put on the certificate turns out not to have been the father - am i wrong to have a view that this information should have been checked before the registration? perhaps i'm a little old-fashioned - but not judgmental..

No, I don't. Well, not that they've told me. I do know plenty of people who might need one if the 'accidently' fell pregnant...
