Hi I have a daughter an her father has been in and out of our lives over the years. Things hve becom progressively worse between us due to very bad Domestic violence (if you can call it that a we were not even together). The last time the police were called and there is complete distance and very limited communication betweeen us. He now sees her every weekend. He wants to pay maintenance but only a much as he says he can afford and I know he earns alot more. I am working but in the past have claimed benifits. I have said to make payments through csa as they will do a calcultion. Will they ask for back payment etc. I don't want to rock the boat as he is volatile and would prefer for maintenance to start from now, but be above board. In short Will CSA dig ad delve and go for back payment? How else can I know his earnings to make sure he's paying the correct amount? Help please

My violent ex is on benefits, works cash in hand and earns a fortune yet pays just £5 a fortnight! and it took me 6 years to get that! no it wasnt backdated, and he only had to pay that because he says he is "ill" and even though I have told the CSA what he does, where he works etc they dont do a thing. I gave up as it was stressing me out so much.
Yep CSA are absolutely waste of space. My ex was self employed and pleaded poverty. I think he ended up paying something in the region of 50p a week or some such rubbish. The paper work the CSA spent writing to me to inform me over the years, and working out the calculations of his earnings must have cost much more than the amount he actually paid. They would have saved taxpayers money by not bothering at all. (We had four children too).
Years later when kids had grown up and flown the next and there was no more maintenance to pay, he contacted the kids, and guess what he had managed to buy a house in this country and one in France too. Huge one in France - lots of land. But he was pleading poverty to the CSA.
I used to tear up the CSA letters as they came through the door - they are RUBBISH.
