The law is a joke, the sentences given out to these sum is just laughable & the scum know it, the kniferes, killers, muggers, rapists, will it ever get to the stage that Vigilante's will start to take things in their own hands to sort this out?

They already did. Remember when people attacked an alleged paedophile?
It has done a few times, a false allegation and mob mentality caused a man to kill himself in Wales when we lived there, so not the best idea really is it?

I'm not so sure Nox, every day you pick up a paper & you read of muggings, rape, knifes, pedos, the police do their work to get these evil pieces of sht out of the equation only to be let down by a stupid old old fart of a Judge, surely this cannot continue, it doesn't say much for the stupid sentences that these bloody idiots pass out?
I sincerely hope not. It's a dangerous path to take.
ALERT ALERT, APOSTROPHE POLICE ABOUT. Vigilantes doesn't have an apostrophe, not possessive. Agree what you say about the law though but.... we really can't have vigilantes taking things in to their own hands - where would it end? Mob rule? Agree with tenrec and NOX, think there would be too many false allegations made out of spite
What about the poor woman in Portsmouth a few years back who was hounded by the mob because she was a paediatrician!
I remember, a few years ago, a mob trashed the house of a Pediatrician !

If you can come up with a deterrent, I'm all ears.
It's not our job to come up with deterrents, TWR.

Nor is it our right to deal 'informally' with anyone we feel has been dealt with leniently by the courts.
it already does happenr
remember the man suspected of killing rachel nickel?
remember the girl hounded because someone decided she was ian huntleys girlfriend - despite looking nothinh like her?

the problem is, vigilante mobs tend to made up of ignorant thugs, usually fairly uneducated - who act first think later

has happened many times - you simply cannot give them any power as they are ill equipped to deal with it.
I read that as detergents, JTH, but perhaps that is what needed as we don't really need to have vigilantes rushing around the UK. We do have a legal system that works reasonably well. Ok, it isn't perfect but it's a bloody sight better than most of the rest of the world.
The way sentences are handed out certainly needs looking at but at least with the system we have miscarriages of justice can be rectified. The punishment by a group of vigilantes can`t.
I'm from a place where it's common for 'vigilante' happenings to take place and the misery across the whole community and the suffering it brings to families really should not be underestimated TWR. I think if you were fully conversant with the types of things that go on you would be less keen on the idea. Example here is just really nothing to what went on in Belfast- you really wouldn't want to export that here.

Exactly Nox. My Aunt and Uncle lived happily with protestant and catholic neighbours in Belfast until the vigilantes hounded them out with what they could get in their car. Heartbreaking.
I disagree. The law is not a joke nor generally are the sentences handed out laughable. In some cases, sentences are fixed by law. In others, the sentences have to fall within the tariff with reference to the Sentencing Guidelines. If a Judge hands out an unduly lenient sentence, it will generally be appealed by the Prosecution.

As for vigilantes, I sincerely hope not. There will be more miscarriages of justice that way than anything the Courts could do.
Whats a 'kniferes'?

I take all on board BUT, Yes there has been numerous miscarriages of justices carried out by the public, I also understand that the Law is set out as said, but surely these people cannot keep getting away with the things they do, I do understand to my favourite fan??? It's not our job to come up with deterrents, but good god, do you not think enough is enough, It's one hell of a thing that a person like the person that has killed 2 people yesterday & will be out in under 15 years when caught & sentenced?
how can you possibly suggest he will be out in less than 15 years? Only the sentencing Judge can set the minimum tariff. Even then it means that he is eligible for parole after 15 years, it doesn't mean he will be automatically released.

Barmaid, for god sake look back at a few cases when the Murderer has been let of early.
I don't think that's always true. Jeremy Bamber will be in prison for the rest of his life and so will a lot of other murderers.
