problems with the csa
4 Answers
i wondered if there is anybody out there who has been through this.i've been paying the csa for approx 12yrs.last yr they wrote to me,to tell me in the last 4yrs.i haven't been paying the write amount.they have been sending me the same letter, saying they want 44.50 a week.they now tell me.that 4yrs ago,the way it is calculated changed.they should have left me on the old system, but dew to an error at there end, they put me on the new system.they now want me to pay 114 aweek plus arrears for 4 yrs,as you can amagine that works out alot of money.i have appealed against there decision.i have a tribunal case up in sept.as i think it is unfair to slap me with these arrears,as it was down to them.if i had known earlier,i wouldn't have let them get as high as they are.just wondering if anybody has had the same problem with them, and how they dealt with it.

If you have a genuine grievance, then I would contact my local MP and outline in detail why you think you have been unfairly treated. If you have documentary proof, then send copies. He probably will not read any of it but will forward it with a note to the Director of the CSA. At least your matter will be looked at at the highest level. I was untruthfully accused of non payment direct to my ex over a five year period. I could produce payment slips for the whole time. Even so, the minnions at the CSA believed my ex and were in the advanced stages of stopping me huge amounts per month at source.
Within 10 days of writing to my MP, I received an apology. No one took any action about the lies told about me tho'.
Hope this helps.

The advice I was given a few years ago by someone who used to work for the CSA was, if you ever have issues with them, to ask to make a complaint about the maladministration of my account
I had trouble getting them to act on my account to collect the 1000's owed by my ex
Within 6 months of making that 'official' call, I had 1000's in my bank account that was owed to me because the CSA had at long last implemented the tools they have to their hand to use, such as going to court, seizure of goods by sending in baliffs if parties didn't show up in court and more
I'm not sure £44.50 per week is enough for even one child, at least you have been paying, even if it has been under some duress in the past
Good luck

Many years ago, this happened to a friend's husband.
He dug his heels in and demanded a review. In the end he had to pay less.
On the other hand, the CSA awarded me £5 a week for my three children as their father was on JSA. When he stopped claiming JSA because he got a job that paid cash in hand and they did not notice. Three years later they asked if I would like them to investigate and despite me giving them all of the details of where he was working, nothing came of it as the boss was not declaring income either.
It seems to me that the CSA go after what they see as easy targets.
You have shown a willingness to pay and he done what has been asked. You cannot be expected to more than double your payment AND pay extra too.
Can you speak to the child's mother?
