My daughter recently lost a back tooth. There appears to be a jagged piece of the old tooth stuck in her gum. Will this work itself loose or do you think I ought to take her to the dentist. The new tooth is starting to come through.

I would see a dentist just to sure.
...to be sure.
Baby teeth fall out when the roots are re absorbed by the body, not when the 'big' teeth push them out as so many people think!
Are you sure it is not a bit of the new tooth coming through, molars can look huge in a little girls mouth when they first erupt.
I am sure your dentist wont mind if you give them a ring and see what they say.
