I am a 27 year old who lives with my girlfriend.
We have good income and a nice house.
My partners cousin is a drug addict and as such, his 6 year old son has been taken by social workers this week. Her cousin is. Waste of space and doesn't care. The child's mother died early this year also due to drugs.
My partner and I would like the child to stay with us, as would like to know if this is possible, and the best route to follow.
The pool child has nobody!

Speaking to Social Services who are caring for the child seems the most obvious place to start.

They will advise you on what you may be able to do.
Normally, social workers are much happier to place a child with family than with strangers, if the "family" passes the usual tests. They will certainly be very aware of drug problems, if both the natural parents have drug problems. But if you have no such problems, and the child has no other relatives wishing to offer him a home, you may well be the best candidates.
Hats off to you! and good luck! I really hope this little lad is able to come and stay with people who obviously care! Contact Social Services and speak with them about your intentions. Please keep us updated - really heartwarming and I wish you all the very best xxxxx
What a wonderful thing to consider. Please get in touch with SS asap and I am pretty sure they would much prefer him to be with you rather than with foster carer. I really hope it works out for you all. Let us know please.

Well I must thank you for your replies.
We got in touch with SS who advised us that any approach had to be through his designated social worker.
The social worker was very helpful and came up to our house for a chat.
We have progressed with the application, and although this could be timely, it looks very favourable and likely, and we are aiming to have everything completed by March. So fingers crossed and thanks again'
