I went to see my daughter and 3 month old granddaughter on xmas day knowing that they had been in contact with someone with chicken pox a few days earlier, I thought it was a risk worth taking as no one in the house was showing any signs of shingles or chicken pox. I now have shingles but quite mildly, I think I have some immunity to it as I have had it twice before. I am rather surprised that still no one has chicken pox or shingles in my daughters house. Would the 3 month old baby have some immunity from mother maybe. just curious really.

if her mother actually has immunity, it's possible, I suppose, especially if still breast-feeding. But not everyone catches everything. OH gets more mosquito bites but fewer colds than me.
My sister, niece and nephew all got chicken pox when my son was a few weeks old. They'd been in daily contact with us and he was unaffected.

My dad has never had any childhood diseases. I remember when my son got mumps (although immunised) and my dad popped in. I've never seen a man move so fast....
jno has basically said it all.

\\\Would the 3 month old baby have some immunity from mother maybe.\\

Yes if the mother has had chickenpox.

Thanks all.

Mother is not able to breast feed due to large amounts of medication she takes for severe epilepsy.

Hi x you can't actually catch shingles, on e you have caught chicken pox the virus lies dormant in your spine and can be reactivated in times of stress.
At 3 months old she may still have some immunity from mum, if mum had chicken pox previously x
Question Author
sheribee, I disagree, I clearly caught it or reactivated it from visiting that household, nothing to do with stress!!
My daughter has been diagnosed with chicken pox three times. last when grandson was six weeks old . Daughter, grandaughter and grandson all had it. Nit son in law .
RATTER you can disagree all you like but you cannot "catch" shingles. As sheribee say it is a reactivation of virus lodged in a nerve fibre from when you had chicken pox. Fact.

Woofgang, thats why I said "or reactivated it from visiting that household," of that I am certain.
