Diet Of A 1 Yr Old.

I just thought I would ask re the above as I visited my teenage son and his (ex) to see their baby(my 1st grandchild) last week to deliver birthday presents for this week. Maybe I'm out of touch but I was a bit shocked by what she was being fed. Before I took baby,mum,my son and I out for lunch(son had to go bk to work) I asked her what baby was eating these days. " Anything and everything". " Everything??". " Yep she has exactly what I have." "
Fast forward to lunch.Mum is just about to order proper lasagne - for the baby - when I gently pointed out that they did rosy posy pasta for 10 months plus, so she ordered that, but still proceeded to feed baby with constant mouthfuls of her own meal which was -garlic doughballs,chips,burger,cheese,and full fat coke, which she sucked up into a straw and then dribbled into babys mouth. I was pretty shocked at this point, but didnt want to spoil a nice day and get told " Its not your child".
On dropping them home she asked if i could sit with baby whilst she nipped to corner shop, she then returned with a few bits - and unwrapped a whole Milky Way and gave it to the baby in her babywalker - a whole one!
Now I dont want to cause a row but surely she shouldnt be eating all of this? The salt? the sugar?
Any thoughts??

Home schooling always seemed a far more interesting method of teaching to me, as it allows the child to have a more individually targeted learning experience, and "hopefully" generates a life encompassing interest in their chosen path. Hope this chimes with your experience, shari, but it's just my thoughts...
I think that, in general, food contains less salt anyway and that's what you need to worry about. They were probably treating the baby anyway because they were out and about, convenience and all that jazz. You could always go armed with bags of fruit when you visit but you may not be as favourited as the nan who brings the lovely, lovely milky ways. A 1 year old should be eating around 1000 calories a day, depending on how active it is.
Home schooled??? I agree with sqad, what about the social side. I hated PE but it provides you with team building skills. You learn a lot of people skills at school. You just don't learn about life knocking about at home. I'd worry my parents/tutor weren't teaching me properly, a variety of teachers ensures you're punctuating to the best of your ability.

No-one has offended me and I'm sorry if smowball's upset if her thread went off track, and yes nibble that is exactly my experience. The one thing is though you do have to be very self disciplined to do it the way my parents have because a lot of the learning and planning onus is on the child, but that was their plan to raise kids who could deal with that and I must admit I don't find it too arduous.

I don't think for a minute snow will be upset or annoyed, she's far too nice for that, but I just get fed up of reading through one poster having to explain herself all the time, and answer so many questions that are completely unrelated to the OP.
Everytime I see it, or have to read through it, I roll my eyes and say "for fluffs sake"...

Madmen, about 5 years ago the AB team went gestapo. They blitzed anything that wasn't related to the thread. This resulted in people not being bothered to post anything, the traffic on the site really slowed down. Without having anyone to annoy outside of the news section Answerbanking is dull.

Well what do you suggest I do Madmen? I won't ignore a perfectly reasonable question from someone who isn't on the 'I hate Shae' bus, nor will I ignore the jibes from those that are, so I'm sorry it's spoiling your Answerbank experience but unless you have any better ideas I'm afraid we're all stuck with it.
