Has anyone ever had whooping Ciough or know any adult who has? At the Grand old age of 67 I was diagnosed with it last night although the blood test I had this morning should confirm it. I'm gobsmacked! It started the day we finished a cruise and there wee a lot of people coughing on it! I'm gobsmacked. Have to stay indoors until I have finished a course of antibiotics in 5 days when I am no longer infectious but I believe it can last weeks.

I had it as an adult about 20 years ago now. I was off work for 6 weeks with it. It was pretty ghastly. I couldn't stop coughing....that was the worst of it. I also felt lousy and at one point developed a rash. I had at least two lots of antibiotics. I eventually went back to work even though I was still feeling washed out as I didn't think staying at home was going to get...

I had it about 70 years ago, but don't remember a thing about it I'm afraid, sorry. Hope you get over it quickly.
\\\\but I believe it can last weeks.\\\

The cough can last up to 3 months.

More common in adults than in children.
I had it in the the '60's too but remember nothing about it either.
i had it at 6 months old and it was touch and go apparently.I haven't heard of anyone having whooping cough for years.
I contracted whopping cough a few years ago. It is horrible.

It is relatively common in some parts of Australia because so many parents choose to not immunise their children. Unfortunately there are people masquerading as health professionals who providing misleading advice.
I had it at about 7 years old. Apparently off school for 3 weeks, but don't really remember. Googling says the vaccine was introduced in the 50s. I'd thought it was much more recent than that. Hope you feel better soon xx

It passed. But I wouldn't want it again.
Take care of yourself.

Thanks Alex, but quite depressing!

Alex, I have been told by the doctor (info confirmed on two sites, one thr NHS Site) that I will not be infectious after the 5 day course of antibiotics which will be Wednesday. Until then I'm housebound. Although the cough may go on for weeks.
Thank you for best answer, Linda.

Sorry to be so depressing, but it was, I'm afraid.

I didn't go back to work because I felt absolutely lousy for ages, not because I was worried about infecting anyone.
The cough was truly the worst bit. At one point I had only 15 minutes between bouts of coughing that just went on and on.....so definitely couldn't have done any work anyway.
poor you linda, no I thought only kids got it, you must be feling terrible.
Docs dishing out antibiotics for a viral infection again? Sqad must be at the golf course or he'd be venting forth.

@ladyalex
//…not because I was worried about infecting anyone. //

Possibly an unintentional arrangement of words but this appears to say that you didn't care about infecting other people!

Get well soon, linda.

And blame the likes of Jenny McCarthy
Hypognosis.

LOL....whooping cough is a Bacterial infection..........

and i don't amd never have played golf...;-)

Never mind my Quarantine will be over on .wednesday after a dose course of antibiotics so I won't be infectious. The cough will be there but at least I wont be passing it on. Thanks for your concern TTT. I will just have to spend my time being a Knuckle Dragger on the News Forum.
I had whooping cough during WW1 when l was five. I was very ill indeed with the doctor calling every day. I was off school for weeks.

I hope you soon recover, lindapalmara.
When I was unwell, hypognosis, I truly did not give a button about anyone else...
I had what I now know was whooping cough as an adult about 10 years ago, it lasted 3 months from January until March and I felt awful, hope for your sake that the antibiotics work SOON!
@Sqad

Really? I suppose I could have Googled it but I was convinced in my beliefs. I'll get some stick for this, in R&S, now!

Much obliged for your correction. It might amuse you to know that my uni chums were mainly people who'd failed to get into medicine and got in through the clearing system. I was there through choice. I think it gave me a false sense of security and I didn't realise I was outclassed until the final results day.
Hypo.....LOL......no big deal.

I only got into medical school because i was good at sport.........as my careers master said :

"sqad, you will get into a London Teaching Hospital because you can play Rugby, not because of your academic prowess which is negligible"

LOL...he was correct.
Playing fast and loose with the quotation marks there, sqad? Or did you pick up the nick that long ago?

(There's no such word as "qwertyadjacency" but that's what the letters in your name are. There is also no word for that thing people do where they splash their fingers over a keyboard to get a random sequence of letters because they can't think up a username which is both cool and not already in use. Even the book of Liff hasn't got one for this).
