I'm soon to become a grandmother for the first time, but I'm not keen on being called Granny, Nanny, Grandma, etc. Does anyone have any alternatives I could consider please?

I wanted to be called Grandma, but I wasn't given a choice. Each grandchild chose their own way of telling the difference between the grandparents. I am Nanny Ron and Nanny Car and Nan-nan.
In my family we seem to be called by what our mother was called and her mother and so on, unless a child can't pronounce it properly and then the new name sometimes sticks.

I'm not close to being a grandmother yet, but I guess I'll be called Granny. I don't like it, but it's better than Nan, IMO, and grandma - no - sounds way too old.
judging from my next door neighbour - how about Ga'woody
I'm Grandad to my face but, curiously, Grampa Dave in the third person. My counterpart, as it were, is also Grandad to his face but Grampa Andy in the third person. When we meet at family dos, we call each other Dave and Andy.

As other have alluded, these things will work themselves out naturally and organically. Best by far to let the ankle biters decide!
My dad was "other grandad" to my nephews, while the paternal grandad was "grandad".
Surely it is not about what you want or don't want it is about what the child is comfortable calling you. Start with grandmother and see what evolves from the child. If you don't like his/her name for you you could avoid spending time with him/her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my parents were /are granny.. nanna ...puppa
my American friend is "MeeMaw". Sounds like a donkey LOL
With four grandchildren I am simply Gran.
The Woodster.
I'm nanna, but I did have a think about variations for a while. I had a nanna and grandad and Amma and Afi (they were icelandic).
My daughter had a granma(my mum)and a grannie(ex's mum).
She refers to me as mothership...so maybe I'll be grandmothership( boat )!... If the dad is her current v long term Italian BF, maybe I'll be a nonna.
In my family Grandma is called Nan.
