I wear woolen hats in winter & a sun hat or a straw hat in summer. I remove them when going indoors but wouldn't if addressing a woman outdoors. Would she remove hers for me?
No and no. And her list of when not to wear a hat is quite laughable. Nearly all are set indoors. I would think people who wear hats take them off indoors anyway.
My dad always wore a "soft hat" when not at work - he wore a bunnet then. He always lifted his hat when meeting a lady but that was the custom back in the day, a sign of respect. He also stood with hat off and head bowed when a funeral cortege passed. He died age 95 in 2001 and I miss him still.
no i don't wear a hat and no i dont think that many men do either. Those that do can keep them on if they so wish. Except in doors where its safe to say you wouldn't be wearing one...
I think a better question would be the OP but flipped. Are there any women who may take objection to a man not removing / raising his hat when addressing you?
