Being on show all the time, meeting and being nice to thousands of complete strangers, making speeches, your whole life mapped out for you from where you go to work to what you wear to work - and to paraphrase the late queen, having the smell of fresh paint up your nose wherever you go?  I always imagine Camilla - who on the day of the coronation looked for all the world like she'd much rather be somewhere else - getting home from her duties, kicking her shoes off, flopping down on the sofa and saying 'Thank God that's over'. Could you do the job?

No - I'd like to do a job that I *want* to do and to be able to go out with my mates whenever I want without the scrutiny of the press. 

Also, to be allowed to live life without scurrulous (possibly) unfounded rumours.

Being royal must be like be famous - but without the assurance that you're actually good at something. 

...Like Emma Thompson is a world class actress; Emily Maitlis and Laura Kuenssberg are two of Britain's most important jounalists; Laura Mvula is an astonishing songwriter/producer - it must be vaguely embarrassing to know that you're admired for who you are, rather than what you do or what you've achieved.

Diana, Princess of Wales is a *major* exception.

She was (and is) a proper icon.

I hope that one day the Princess of Wales is able to fill her shoes.

Not for all the tea in China and the Crown Jewels.  I am a very private person and would having my life recorded in the press and gossiped about in the rags. My past demeanours are long gone and buried, unlike every member of the RF.

i agree, it is inhumane to the people caught up in it and should be abolished. the royal family is like a factory for damaged and unwell people with no accountability

SP, Camilla lazy? Not at all.  She's 76 years old - and I think she does a great job.

I'm judging her based on the work ethic of Cher (a PROPER icon). She's two years older and absolutely cam efrom nothing, works hard and tours. None of this "I've had to open three supermarkets this month...I need a holiday".

 

Nahh...bless her for holding out and getting together with the love of her life, despite having to break the marriage vows she made before God...but I don't think that many peoopl would hold her up as an example of honest hard work.

I'm part-way there already, nice to strangers, done my share of public speaking, painted my own house and am well able to flop onto the couch.

I'm only missing the palaces, servants, armed forces and general life of Reilly.

SP, Cher does what she wants to do - not what she's obliged to do - and as for 'Before God' -  I don't know if that's just spiteful or ridiculous.  A bit of both I guess.
