Update On Grandaughter And Help For Keep

I applied for pension credit, we would not entitled to it, if its just me and Mr Fruit, (even though we are just above the limit) both being on a state pension,  but we would be entitled to something, as Grandaughter is/was living with us, DWP asked me to ask the mother to email the school and confirm that they, have her down as living at this address, the Mother totally refused, obviously because it would mean her losing her benefits, and said Grandaughter would have to go back home, she has been there all of 2 days, and she's phoned me, and said Nan,  there's no milk for my cereal, I had to eat, them dry,  but there is, plenty of alcohol, in the fridge, already she's asking to come back, I just don't know what I can do now, the Mother spends her benefit money, mainly on drink, alcohol and cigarettes, I don't want to see my Grandaughter suffer, but if she's not going to get the school to email me, confirming she lives here, we are right back to square one again, with her getting away with it, The father my Son, gives me money to help keep her, but why should the Mother get away with it, I wouldn't even mind if she gave my Grandaughter, £20/25 a week pocket money to help us out, with treats etc. But she has never even offered that, not sure what to do next.

Good evening, to be blunt the mother is not going to do this. 
Put in a claim for child benefit and they will investigate the school and dr situation so you don't have to talk to your daughter in law.

I agree with the above answers. Your son could also do more. Could he confirm that your granddaughter has been living with you?

Child benefit is the gateway benefit, once they confirm your entitlement you will be able to claim other benefits

fruitsalad-----Interesting programme on the news this morning .Apparently there are lots of people in similar situations like you. There is an organisation called' Kinship Care 'that could help. I don't know where they are based but maybe Social Services would know.
