Several years ago I was experiencing, what I considered to be significant leg cramp. This usually occurred during sleep and resulted in jumping out of bed very quickly and trying to release the muscle in which ever way possible. I subsequently made a note of what was eaten during the day and commented on any adverse reactions the following morning.

From this very unscientific method I found that if I did not eat starchy foods-potatoes,rice,pasta,white bread(corn and derivatives eg.cornstarch) I rarely experienced the problem. Sometimes when I have eaten white bread during the day I would get cramp in both hands.

As this was not scientifically based I can only say it works for me! However a similar course of action could possibly benefit others who suffer this kind of pain. Whilst cures using juices may help, perhaps finding possible causes may lessen the number and severity of attacks- and possibly get a better nights sleep!

One a day magnesium tablets work for me.

Yes, drink more water. As well as a few cups during the day  have a couple of cups in the early evening and a mug of hot boiled water before you go to bed. You may need a little bit more salt too - or magnesium as Naomi says.

Several threads on here about cramp(s).

Statins for cholesterol control are said to have cramps as a side effect.

I do sometimes get leg cramp if moving/stretching in a particular way in bed. Exruciating pain, need to jump up and try to ease it straight away.

Dr. Hyman, MD, is a family physician. He explains food choices in terms of beneficial bacteria and achieving a healthy gut. Although using many medical terms, the Doctor discusses starch avoidance and starch types and explains that unmodified starch is primarily helpful. He also discusses how to reduce inflammation and stabilize blood sugar levels, which is instrumental in preventing muscle cramps.
