Matching Bed linen
31 Answers
Please tell me I am not alone as all my bed linen does not match. There seems to be a trend for having it all matching. Do you have to change the duvet cover if the children have only snotted on the pillow case. If the dog has put muddy paws on the duvet cover should you change the pillows and bottom too. I am becoming paranoid that I am failing my children as their bedding does not match.
If I am alone I accept I must change my ways.

However you would not believe how many people would not think this way. I have known of several people recently that have bought whole new sets as one piece is worn out or they have redecorated. If one piece is dirty they cannot think of putting an odd one on. It beggers belief but it happens and all the young mums I have spoken too recently seem to be on the other boat to us.
Excellent question, made me laugh (well actually snort a bit of coffee out my nose- V attractive!)
Like the Oracle (aka Mr Hughes) has already pointed out, you do start out with all good intentions. your duvet matches the pillowcovers and the sheet. For a few months you desperately try to wash them and dry them all together, then comes the inevitable day when you think "sod it" and on goes the off white, washed to within an inch of its life bedding.
Then something weird happens- whilst you still might have all this wonderful colour co-ordinated bedding, they never actually appear on your bed all at the same time.
It really is one of life's mysteries, along with where do all the household pens go to? Who's eaten all the teaspoons? And how come my socks never seem to be in pairs?

I actually prefer my bed linen not to match. A bit strange considering I have OCD tendencies elsewhere ;o)
I like my pillow cases and sheets to be different colours to my duvet covers..uh oh, maybe that's my OCD!!!
As for changing the bed linen, I do that once a week. Unless of course a child throws up and I have to change it earlier...

Im really sorry but thing definatley have to match in my house or i just couldnt settle, with regards to the covers I would rather stay up till mid night waiting for my sheets to dry so I could put a matching set on than go to bed with a mismatched set.
However I am like this with everything, ie. my tea coffee sugar have to go in that order and they all got to be forward facing, I line my towels up, make sure all tinned food is forward facing and grouped together, and cds/books etc are arranged A-Z. I could go on all night with the things I do but I would send you all daft! To me being like this is normal, I cant believe there are so many of you out there that dont think this way!!

I guess it all depends on the definaition of coordination and matching!
For example. One of my duvet sets is white with blue, purple and pink stripes on one side & the same colour flowers on the other side. I often change just the pillow cases mid week, from the matching ones to plain colour. The plain colour is usually pink, purple or blue.
Does this count as coordination or matching?

i could not care less what my bed linen is like.
i think people who get bothered by such things are something of control freaks - they need control and order in such minor things to compensate for the bigger things they have no control over.
there is nothing wrong with matching up the bedding - thats normal and obvious - but if it can't be matched and nothing else will do, thats where the problem is.
the weirdest thing is when people match the curtains to their bedding too - i don't mean in theme or colour but in identical fabric...!

I am trying an experiment.
Today I have completely stripped my bed and remade it with a completely matching set of bedding; pillowcases, duvet cover and bottom sheet all in plain aubergine - possibly for the first time it all matches in oooh 30 years or more.
I will report in the morning if I slept any better
