I think women have too much to do to let any minor illness keep them in bed. I know from experience that all the housework won't get done by the male members of my family unless I'm at death's door. My sister is the complete opposite, she'll take to her bed if she so much as sneezes. Everything is exaggerated - she doesn't have a cold she has flu, headache is always migraine etc.
I can't comment on how I'd cope if I was diagnosed with a serious illness. I'd like to think that I would remain calm and strong like I did when my mum had a stroke.

If I'm generally fit and healthy and getting good sleep I tend not to get ill - I only get colds and things if I'm stressed, run down and tired so to be honest I do sometimes take to my bed, more because my body's telling me to take break! I've learn't the hard way that if I carry on my colds, although rare, if not cossetted tend to go into bronchitis, pleurisy or pneumonia so I take the hint!
If I had a serious illness I'd like to think that I'd cope well but I have a tendency to want to cope alone and that always cause friction with Mr Hellion who thinks I'm too self sufficient and that drives him nuts.
