Not sure which book you're referring to, but potty training can happen quickly - or seem to take forever. It was a standing joke in our house, that the boys'd start school still in nappies, but we just let them go at their own rate, and used trainer pants as they got a little bigger. I wouldn't worry about it too much. x
sorry, but i saw this and i was tempted, my son was looking to be a nightmare to get trained, but it took me just a week without the book, i really wouldnt waste ur money, the fact is that kids need to not so much learn to use the potty as much as they have to learn the feeling of needing to go, once they establish they have a full bladder, they then know somethings gonna give, my lad as i say was 3, before he would even entertain the potty, before that he would kick and scream, and bite.... very distressing it was, but i think its alot to do with the child being ready, after all... he/she will learn eventually, its a lot easier when they have a firm grasp of what ur asking, my son worked really well with wee wee stickers, 2 for poo, he's completely dry day time, but still in pullups for night time, which is okay by me.
i had the book and was no good. my son was 3 a few weeks ago and is dry day and night now. the way we did it was, to let him runa round with no bottoms or nappy on. have his potty near him and when he wees on the floor just put him straight on his potty. he will then start to realise what his potty is for. it takes time and patience. we set aside 4 days where we didnt go out, and by the end of the four days he was going to his potty himself, or would hold it and tell me wee wee. dont worry about the nights yet, get him dry in the day first. when he starts going to his potty himself, then start putting pants on him n showin him how to pull them down. it took my son a few weeks to stop weein in hiss pants as he felt like he had a nappy on, but after about a month he was dry all day. it can get very stressfull but please dont shout as u will scare him off. a reward chart helped my son. we got some card and made our own, buy a comic and let him stick pics on of his favourite characters.
I also waited until I felt my daughter was ready. She was just under 3 years old and did really well. I cant remember how many days exactly but I do know we had very few accidents and she was soon able to "hold it" long enough to be able to get to a toilet in time if we was out. Very soon after, she was dry at nights with no accidents.

I would say give it a go first and see what happens. If it becomes a stressful thing for you both, leave it and try again in a couple of months.

Thanks for all the great advice, i will centainly have a go this weekend an see how he gets on...as there is no rush. we have a tiled floors so no problem if he pee's, not sure how i could cope if we had carpets?
Thanks again
I wouldn't bother with the book. Every child is different and even with the best advice there is no way you can potty train a child if they do not want to do it! Has your son shown any signs of being ready because if he isn't even 2 yet it is very young to begin. I have heard of lots of girls managing it this young but boys are usually much later and more difficult. You sound like you are very keen and of course I am not saying this is a bad thing but don't be disheartened if it doesn't work. Boys are usually lazy in this department and this doesn't change when they become men!!
both my children were dry day and night by the age of 2. I think we had more incentive to get the children out of nappies because we used terry nappies that had to be washed. Disposables take the hard work away. Good luck to you, just have patience do not get cross if there are accidents and your child will respond well. You do not need a book just patience love and common sense.
