how do i find out on line if there are any pedofiles close to where i live so i can protect my family?

The word is paedophile and how exactly would you/could you protect your family. We all loathe and despise these 'people' but I do feel you are being somewhat paranoid.

You could only ever find out about people who have been caught - you can't find out about those who haven't.

Although the newspapers lead you to believe that our kids are in terrible danger and that there is a paedophile lurking on every corner, the facts are that attacks on children by strangers are relatively (and thankfully) rare.

You obviously should take sensible precautions, but really, your children are at more risk statistically from your family and friends than from people living in the area.

The law has been changed so that women on their own with children are able to go to their local police station and get a check completed on any new partners so that they can feel more comfortable about allowing them in contact with their children.

How can she be paranoid...her mum's boyfriend isn't a friend or family member to everyone in her neighbourhood, is he? She is obviously thinking on a wider scale, not a narrow and paranoid scale, and she did not invite him into her personal sphere, someone else did.

cherrycherry - she has said that her mums boyfriend has been arrested for it, but we don't know a, if he's guilty and b. who he is alleged to have perpetrated his crimes on. It may be a family member for all we know

I am not saying that it doesn't happen, I am just saying that it is rare that it is some creepy bloke that lives down the street chooses some child on his own doorstep. It is more likely that the filthy slime will either already be a part of the family, or will worm his way into a family in order to get closer to a victim.

I would be more inclined to be vigilant about new partners or existing members of the family as sad as that may seem.

There is no way, what percentage of them are actually caught and convicted? Without being too insensitive you had one brought close within your family circle - would you have realised if he hadnt been arrested for it?
