Hello. I have just been given my first appointment at the Gynaecology dept to find out why we can't conceive.(We have been trying for nearly 3 years!) I really don't know what happens or what to expect when I get to my appointment as I have already had numerous blood tests done at my Doctors. Could anyone advise on what happens or does it vary from hospital to hospital?

i had my first apointment a few weeks ago

firstly i had a mid cycle scan (before the appt) this was an internal scan to look at the ovaries and womb. and to see whether i actually ovulated. i also had a ********* test

then on the day of the appt i saw the fertility doctor who discussed the results of scan, and what the further options were from the results of the tests for about 30 minutes. then we saw the nurse who explained things in a bit more detail, and organised the further tests i had to have.
i will see the consultant after the follicular tracking tests

i dont know if its different from hospital to hospital as ive only been to one!

i would guess what they say/do will be different for everyone because the cause could be different.
4 things have to be in place for you to concieve
1) make sure you are ovulating
2)make sure your partner has sperm
3)make sure the fallopian tubes are patent, to allow an egg to descend
4)make sure you do lots of sex

so they will tackle 3 of those 4 areas
i have no idea why CHLAMYDIA was starred out!
Oh dear. That was silly of them. They let a lot WORSE words in.

Anyway, I have friends who attend fertility clinics, and they basically say the same as bednobs's just told you. the word that was blamked out (!!) is a common reason for not being able to conceive, so I imagine that'll be amongst the first batch of tests, as well as checking that you ovulate of course, and that your partner's sperm's healthy. Best of luck to you.
I have been referred to the hospital who have done several tests.
Had a scan to see if ovaries are ok.
Had an internal scan with dye injected in to see if my fallopian tubes are blocked.
had blood tests
partner had to take a sample in.
They have said I have polycystic avaries which has resulted in me being put on a tablet called Clomid, which helps you to ovulate.
All seems very scary but its not all that bad.

Hope everything goes ok
