hi all my friends 1 year old has ot to go in for a major op on his hips and spine due to a birth defect.
He will have to be in a full body cast for 10 weeks i was just wondering if there was any toys on the market that will help him get through this time as he will have very little movement and is normally such an active happy child.
my friends toys are all fo the able bodied and she doesn't want to just put thomas the tank on the tv. so what toys are on the market for chilren with limited movement.

When he is in hospital they should have a play specialist on the children's ward,it would be a good idea for the child's mum to speak to him or her about the best way to keep the child entertained. She could also ask to speak to an occupational therapist about it whilst there.

So sorry to hear about your friends child. I hate it when any child has to undergo major surgery. It will not be an easy time for them all, the child will get so frustrated and the parents will get tired and absolutely worn out with all the after care that will be needed. I don't know about special toys, I'm sure the hospital will give them advice about this. If I was in your position I would give my time to my friends and perhaps offer the parents a day off and take over looking after the child for one day a week so that they could go out and just have a break. Anyway best of luck and I hope the child makes a good recovery and the operation is a complete success.
