conjoined twins is the term you're looked for, and it depends on how they are conjoined.. which body parts are shared, etc.
Yes......the problem is whether one or both are alive at the end of the operation. Sara3 is correct.
Twins who are conjoined by tissue, but have separate fully functioning bodies can be separated, but, as advised, shared internal organs present serious problems.

The original Siamese Twins - Chang and Eng Bunker were conjoined by a sinuous piece of tissue which joined them at the breastbone. Had they been born now, they could have been separated successfully.
