Dental Treatment Charges
6 Answers
Does anyone know if there is a time limit set on dental treatment carried out under the NHS. I have been advised that I need a root canal filling but that it will cost me 350 for private treatment because although I am an NHS patient, there is not enough time allocated for this type of treatment via the NHS. Under the NHS Dental Charges Guide Lines, it indicates that I should be able to get a root canal filling for 45.60. I am not sure if all this i correct or not. Any views or advice. Thanks

Is your dentist suggesting that you cant have a procedure on the NHS because it will take up too much of their time? NHS dentists are reimbursed by procedure, not the amount of time that procedure takes. If this is what they mean, then I think they would be in breach of the NHS dentistry guidelines.
I would definitely get some clarification, preferably written, from them, detailing exactly what work they think you need and exactly why it would not be suitable under the NHS charging system.
You might already have a copy, but I have included a link with 2009 NHS dentistry guidelines, procedures, charging bands, etc.
