Problems with Google

This problem just started recently. Whenever I type a search into Google I get the usual list of links regarding that topic. However, when I click on one of them I get a page saying "Redirecting: please wait", and then I get a page, usually advertising, which has nothing to do with my search. I have XP and IE8. Could anyone help me solve this please?

Zacsmaster, this problem started after I had taken my computer to get it "devirused". Are you saying that the tech missed something?

I wonder if de-installing and then re-installing "Google" would help? Anyway, lets hope the cavalry will come to our rescue:)

it's probably not strictly speaking a virus, it more malware (not that what its called matters to you)

download and install malwarebytes (link below) let it do all the updates and then restart your computer, as soon as it starts up (before you see the windows logo) start pressing F8, when a menu comes up select "safe mode" and hit enter.

Once your computer has started in safe mode run malwarebytes again and run a full system scan and hopefully it will find and clear your problem

Tried what you suggested, CF, but everything froze on a page saying it had found 837 errors, asked me to buy the program, and gave no option to restart the computer. I think I must have big problems.

install it but do not run the scan...

you then have to restart your computer, it won't do it for you, just turn it off and on again and start pressing f8 as soon as you turn it on.

once you get it booted into safe mode then the scan should complete OK (and you don't need to buy the full version)

Tried that too, CF, but I just seem to be going in circles: no joy, as you guys say. Guess I'll take it to another Tech.. But thanks for your suggestions; myself and many others on this site appreciate them.....cheers.

I had a problem that my expensive AVG didn't pick up it turned out to be a macro'virus' stored in word which kicked in as soon as I switched the computer on

It's a Google redirect virus also known as browser hijacker. ComboFix fixed this problem for me. It's a free tool. Download from http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

IMPORTANT! Rename the installer to Combo-Fix before saving it onto your computer. Run it and follow the prompts.
