hi folks .
we both came back yesterday from private dentist , for check up and both had teeth cleaned !
total cost of that == £145. What a rip off . He's a lovely dentist, but thinking of trying to go into a nhs dentist.
What would a nhs dentist charge for clean and check up? many thanks for any answers x

I forgot to say, that an x-ray was included on that bill. (sorry)
Now my hubbie rang dentist this morning to see if he really did need a crown , and guess what -- £420, but hassled it down to £400.
What would an nhs dentist charge please , any ideas? x

hi squarebear --you've hit the nail on the head! i've always said the same thing.
our dentist makes sure you have a 6 month app, and if we dont go , i feel that we'll be chucked off his register. maybe it would be a good thing, and coax us into going to the nhs dentists! Why go if your teeth dont play you up. x ha ha

I think I only paid about £17 for a check up last time. She said they didnt need cleaning so I was in and out in about 5 mins. What a rip off, although now we only have 10monthly apps. Our dentist isnt very good. Polish and very heavy handed, so we are in the process of changing and have just got on the register of someone who was recommended to us
Can't fault my NHS dentist. Been with her for years. Two route canal treatments including several x-rays and emergency treatment for one of them and I paid £45.60 plus the charges for a couple of antibiotic prescriptions. I'll soon need a denture. I know, upfront, that it will only cost £198 and that I will get the best my dentist can deliver, because she's truly a brilliant woman!
My sister has always had private treatment, thanks to the man she was married to having a BUPA package as part of his salary deal (plus, I think, she's always considered NHS treatment a little beneath her). Now she's divorced and single and urgently needs a bridge replacement that she just can't afford privately. Sadly she can't get in at any NHS dentists locally, so she's just going to have to wait until she has enough money for private treatment. I've always envied her for what she has, but now I'm the sister with the upper hand.

Good for you Saxy
We only stayed with this dentist because it was our original one but he retired and theyve got all these Polish people in and we darent change before because there was no where to go but we put our name down at this new one and were accepted within about 4months.
I think you should go to the dentist regular to save long term damage if things are caught in time
