I know of somebody who has recently moved in to temporary housing and has not long left on the waiting list until there offered a permanent council house.
This person is seperated from their partner and has been attending court hearings about the forth coming divorce, but still the finicial side of things has yet to be disclosed.
This person is also in no means short of money and I feel it is very un-fair to put themselves forward for housing until all assets have been fairly divided from the divorce. Is this normal procedure from the council? Should they help this person so soon without knowing the full out comming's of the divorce?

She wansnt homeless, she refused (wouldnt look) to secure herself private housing again once her tenancy ended. She also has money as someone else said at the moment it may be credit but as far as im aware thats accepted for a deposit on a house.
You sound a tad bitter Dan..

but surely if someone could secure there own accomodation (private renting) would the council have a obligation to help you and put you in a homeless catergory.
How do you know she can secure her own accommodation? Do you know her bank balance?

Im not bitter, im also in the same situation, im homeless with my children. I had no where else to go, lost my job and im aware there is limited access to housing for people in desperate need.
Being in Band B doesn't necessarily mean she will get housed soon dan. I was in Band B and had to wait over a year for appropriate housing to come up. Band A always takes priority no matter when you join the waiting list.
im sure she would have to disclose all her financial details somewhere along the lines. I know from when i was about to be evicted from my home i had to go a show evidence on my incomings and outgoings to show that i could not afford to rent privately and that i was desperate to be upped on the council waiting list.
private rent can be very expensive, without getting a breakdown of her ingoings and out goings you are only going to hazard guesses based on what you see, maybe you should be wondering why this is getting under your skin so much.

people choosing to be rehoused by the council are normally in a no choice situation as a lot of council proprty is less than desirable.
I was in band A for 2 years
How do you know she could secure her own accommodation?
The temporary accommodation the council might offer her is usually dire. If she was to be offered permanent council housing it wouldn't be in the best area.
tottally agree cazz, i was only rehoused quickly in the end because my eviction date was close and i accepted a crappy run down flat with many problems waiting to be fixed. Infact it turned out that i was living above junkies, wasnt a very pleasent experience. if i couldve gone private i wouldve

I know when she left her old tenancy she got £2000 of her own money back, I know she said she wants a secure roof over her head (dont we all) so wouldnt put the money back in to renting. I know she pays £600 storage fees a month and runs a audi. In my eyes shes more than able to secure a roof over her head for her and her children.
You don't need to be poor as a church mouse to become a council tenant. The councils offer long term security that isn't always available with private landlords.
You should be thankful that there's a 'safety net' to help people like her who might fall on hard times.
just try not to stress yourelf out about it too much dandan. Chances are she will get sick of waiting and IF she does have the money she will look privatley anyway.
£,2,000....that wouldn't last long.

How do you know her storage fees? You know you can get your storage paid if they can't house you.

im in temporary housing and i always thought it would be a tiny pokey flat buts its not acually, i dont know what her bank balance is but i do see with my own eyes.
her 2 grand wont go far then with those overheads. If she was as loaded as you think she would rent somewhere private rather than wait to be offered a dive (likely)

I think its sad that it bothers you so much, clearly the "she has money" thing that seems to be annoying you.
Question Author
it depends what location you live in what the council housing is like, the person at the top of the list at the moment is just waiting to here if they have a 3 bed house down a rd where the properties are worth over £400,000
You're allowed to have 6k in the bank before you have to declare it.

You really do sound jealous and bitter...
Does that bother you as well?
