Why are the elderly so attention seeking?

Please don't see me as a "pensioner basher" in any way as this is a very serious and valid question as I do love the elderly and after all most of us become elderly at some point.
My question comes from hearing about many elderly people telling their relatives that they will kill themselves and they don't want to be seen as a bother etc.. But then raise all kinds of hell that do indeed cause bother and disruption, even here before I signed up when I read time to time I always see members that have been identified as elderly taking things to heart and then threatening to leave only to reappear several days later with a "Cooee Im baack" Why is this done? Is this maybe a form of loneliness and a way to see how many friends they have or maybe a mild form of a degenerating brain disease? This has had me perplexxed for a long time so any input into understanding this condition will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
One confused amy.

^^^ Come off it boobies... You're not seriously giving the poster the benefit of the doubt? It's clearly a pop.... I don't mind answering the rest of the question but that bit is a definite bite at bobbi.

Mind you, I might just be being grumpy and cantankerous... ;0)
i could be just having a "thick day" (yes, i know, i have alot of them!) But I genuinely didn't think of that CD.

I mean of course now that it[s been pointed out, it could apply to Bobbs, but then again it could be any one of us, think ive done a flounce or two over the years ive been here.
Pah... Ba humbug! ;oP

Yes it is Pinki, and not something I or others in my store do. Not sure how you'd tackle something like that, i at the very least would rollock the staff member at the time, im too much of a gobby mare to keep quiet.

As I've said, if im treated with courtesy and respect, i do likewise- no matter what their age.

I took it as a pop at bobbi. Yet another one.....
Leave the woman alone.
<<<<I've personally found quite a few elderly to be cantankerous, crotchety and downright rude <<<<

That comment doesnt entirely relate to just the elderly.
Attention seeking is a manifestation of insecurity to ALL age groups.

Would you like me to name some middle aged ABers for you?
I can do that for you Sqad...ME!

;-)
FAO bedknobs I am 83!!!!!
BOO..........you?.............what?..........
.....BOO?...........nah!

I can pick half a dozen out of the hat, before your name emerges..........but it would ;-)
Ok, let me rephrase my thinking then, seeing as im coming across all wrong.

What I mean is, yes, all generations can be rude, crotchety, etc etc, but somehow when someone of a certain age is being like that it's somehow acceptable, and excused because "oh they're old". Well im sorry, but that doesn't wash with me.
Good Lord - are you (sqad) and Boo verging-on-friends-status these days?

I am only midde aged if I consider I'm going to live until I'm 98............. I only seek attention in certain ways, I avoid it in others.
I agree with you Boo :c)
BOO

<<and excused because "oh they're old". Well im sorry, but that doesn't wash with me<<<

That was once the case a sort of "respect your elders", but that seems to be just a joke now and most young, middle aged people realise this.

Whether or not it as a step forward.......that is another question, but respect now needs to be redefined as it would seem that , if present at all, means an entirely different thing.
I've always treated people with the same amount of respect that I get in return sqad.
You can't respect people just because they've reached a certain age Sqad
Perhaps not then...................
